FREE Nutrition & Plant-Based Lifestyle Class

Discover the connection between nutrition and long-term health through Food RX: Using Food as Medicine, a free, 8-week nutrition and healthy cooking class provided by the J.A. Henry YMCA at Parkridge Hospital.

This evidence-based program explores how whole-food, plant-based eating can support heart health, healthy blood sugar and cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of chronic disease. Each class combines practical nutrition education with easy-to-follow cooking demonstrations, recipes and resources you can use at home.

 

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:

Over eight weeks, participants will explore:

  • The power of whole-food, plant-based nutrition
  • Nutrition to manage blood sugar
  • Connection between food and cancer prevention
  • Healthy weight management
  • Digestive and brain health

Classes are designed with guidance from physicians, diabetes educators, registered dietitians and professional chefs, providing practical information grounded in current nutrition research.

YOUR INSTRUCTORS:

Classes are taught by Chrissie Smith, BS, RN, and Natalie Owsley, Ph.D., CPNP, FNP-BC, licensed Food for Life instructors, with support from student interns from UTC’s College of Nursing.
