Get Involved
Volunteers provide essential assistance in the administration of each department division, serve on committees, work with staff to meet the needs of our members and participants, and provide many other valuable contributions to the organization. Our YMCA offers year-round volunteer opportunities for members and non-members from the community and surrounding areas to give back and help build a better community within our Y. Opportunities range throughout the year and are based upon need within a program or department.
Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways to help at your local Y. Volunteering does more than help others, it can change your own life for the better. That's what we're all about here at the Y.
Whether it's prepping healthy meals for children in need (YMCA Food and Fun), summer feeding programs, or other Y outreach programs, sometimes we have no idea the impact volunteering will have on us as well as those we serve.
We have many volunteer opportunities at the Y. A few of the areas in need of volunteers include:
- Front Desk/Wellness
- Y-CAP Youth Mentors
- Afterschool Counselor
- Food Programs
- Youth Sports Coaches
- Miracle League of Chattanooga
- Be a Storyteller! Tell your Y story
As a volunteer, you must complete a background check, volunteer application and any applicable training. If you volunteer with children, a fingerprint check is also required. For additional information or to apply to volunteer, browse our current opportunities here.
Be a Y Storyteller
There's something for everyone at the Y! Share your impactful experiences with us to shed light on how the Y has influenced you or your family's well-being. Use our submission form to conveniently outline the details of your story. Your Y story holds the power to motivate others towards healthier, happier lives, showcasing the positive influence our Y has on our community.
Consider these story ideas:
- Showcase how the Y, through programs, resources, or staff support, aided you and your family.
- A story that illustrates Youth Development, Healthy Living or Social Responsibility.
- Highlight how the Y helped you or someone else overcome specific challenges, be it a disability, circumstantial obstacles or adopting a healthier lifestyle.
- If you or someone you know received financial support, share how that positively impacted your/their life.
