MEET MICHAEL: GROUP EX INSTRUCTOR

Michael leads Minds in Motion and is a personal trainer!

Michael's wellness journey began with sports in elementary through high school, inspired by his mom’s active lifestyle and his dad’s love of sports. "I would play any sport you threw me in, and the same goes today," he joked.

His passion for wellness grew in college and after his freshman year, he began working here at the Hamilton Y, where his passion for helping others only grew. Michael said, "helping others reach their goals became just as important as meeting my own."

Michael, who has dyslexia and ADD, struggled with the rigidness of school and homework at times. His personal challenges taught him patience and the importance of equity in working with people from all backgrounds. Michael now teaches Minds in Motion, a group exercise class designed for adults with cognitive disabilities.

Michael started off here as wellness floor staff and within his first six months, earned his PT certification and then another six months later, his strength & conditioning certification. Originally from the Portland, Oregon area, he now lives here in Chattanooga with his wife, who he JUST married in December 2024!
