MEET JONATHAN HYDE: GROUP EX INSTRUCTOR
Jonathan has been passionate about fitness and athletics since his freshman year of college. While pursuing his postgraduate degree, he began competing in triathlons and completed his first Ironman in 2014. During that time, he developed an interest in strength training for sport. His first training client was his wife, a professional dancer, and he saw firsthand how strength training not only improved his performance, but helped her maintain a high level of artistry and endurance in her career.

Currently, he practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu and is preparing to race in TWO Ironman triathlons in 2025. His ambitious goal is to achieve a 1,200-pound powerlifting total and complete an Ironman in under 12 hours — all within the same week.
He began his YMCA career as a personal trainer in 2017. When facilities reopened after COVID-19 in 2020, he took the opportunity to utilize the PIT as a space for a dynamic fitness program. Through trial and innovation, Effort was born — a class designed as a journey in self-discovery through movement and training.
Over the years, he has worked with high-level ballerinas, triathletes, hockey players and golfers. While their performance needs vary greatly, his Effort philosophy has proven effective across disciplines, helping athletes push boundaries and unlock their full potential.
