At the Y, we know many of our neighbors live in food deserts where access to fresh, high-quality food is limited. By mobilizing our efforts, the Chattanooga Mobile Market has served 3,600 residents across 12 sites. Providing families with affordable, nutritious food empowers them to adopt healthier eating habits.

WEEK 2

Miracle League

The Miracle League serves children and adults who suffer from any physical or mental disabilities, which causes them to be excluded, whether intentionally or not, from conventional baseball leagues. By using a custom-designed, rubberized turf field, players with wheelchairs or other assertive devices while can safely play the sport of baseball.

WE SEE

Miracle League of Chattanooga gives participants the opportunity to make new friends, build self-esteem, play the sport of baseball, and be treated just like other athletes. To help the athletes, the Miracle League uses a “buddy” system – pairing each player with an able-bodied peer. The result is a bond that cannot be described.

Players living with physical or cognitive disabilities, such as down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and amputation can show off their skills and love of competition on the ball field all season!

The Food Rx program, in partnership with True Health Journey, has served 100 people in the past year with the instruction from Christine Smith, RN, BS, Certified Health Coach —with direction from doctor of Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Suzannah Bozzone. The class continues to be in high demand, and we are thankful to be able to serve the general public as well as Y members who are working to build themselves a healthier life and manage chronic disease. In the last several decades, research has revealed utilizing a plant-based diet can reduce and reverse several forms of chronic disease.
