MEET GEORGE: MEMBER OF THE MONTH
George has been a part of the Y community since 1953, when he was a Senior in High school at Baylor and was wanting to put weight on. George said he weighed in at 125 lbs during his Junior year, and by his senior year after working out at the Y, he weighed in at 170 lbs.
After high school, George continued his YMCA membership while he studied at Georgia Tech, he even stayed in the Y building on campus! From there, George joined the Marine Corps., for which we would like to say, thank you for your service, George.
Now 87, he isn’t slowing down. George comes to the Downtown Y to workout about 3-4 times per week, and spends quality time his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and new great-grand baby frequently.
During our conversation, George explained that the Y has always meant a lot to him, he was even on the Downtown YMCA’s Board during his 30s when this facility was being built. George’s longstanding support of the Y means so much to us, and the Y is grateful to have been a consistent, welcoming space for him since 1953!
