MEET SARAH: Group exercise instructor at the Downtown Family YMCA
Sarah’s fitness journey began in high school as a setter on her volleyball team. In 2013, she discovered a passion for fitness, embracing lifting, strength training, and climbing gyms as part of her routine. These activities became essential to her mental health and personal growth.

Sarah joined the Y in 2016. After her daughter was born in 2018, her husband introduced her to WERQ, convinced she’d love the dance-based exercise class. She took classes regularly, even began teaching during the pandemic via Zoom. Now in her third year as an instructor, Sarah teaches WERQ every Wednesday and Friday at noon.
As a stay-at-home mom, Sarah knows how easy it is to lose focus on self-care. “You kind of get lost in being a mom and can forget you’re more than someone who makes snacks and does laundry,” she said. WERQ helped her reconnect with herself, empowering her womanhood and reminding her that self-care is essential to caring for her family.
When she’s not leading WERQ, Sarah enjoys hiking and exploring the outdoors with her family.
