MARCH MADNESS AT YOUR LOCAL YMCA
Basketball was invented at the YMCA, and its legacy continues at YMCAs around the world and in our community. Celebrate the game all March long with brackets, team spirit days and time on the court at your local Y.
WHERE BASKETBALL WAS BORN
WHERE BASKETBALL WAS BORN
In 1891, Dr. James Naismith, a physical education instructor at the International YMCA Training School in Springfield, Massachusetts, created basketball as a way to keep his students active during the winter months. What began as a simple game with a soccer ball and two peach baskets quickly grew into one of the most popular sports worldwide.
