Strong Kids
A Vision for the Future
Do You See What I See?
Where there is no vision, the people perish. Proverbs 29:18a
When it comes to helping others, we are all called to be good stewards of what we’ve been given. In charitable giving, everyone wants to give to those organizations that do the most good. There are several organizations that do a marvelous job of delivering much needed immediate aid at times of crisis. In contrast, the focus of the YMCA is to help people make the changes today that will mean a major difference in their lives over the long term. Once the crisis has passed, – whether heart attack, school failure, divorce or other losses – our job at the YMCA is to help people set the right course for their lives over the long term.
Every year, YMCA members and volunteers give their time and money to make life better for a child, a single mother, a family enduring financial hardship, an isolated older person. Each person’s story is different, but essentially they all tell us the same thing: The YMCA changed my life.

It is also our responsibility to let you know how dollars given to the Y make a real difference.
The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign has helped:
-
Adults who were given grim news from their doctors: “Take the weight off or you’re going to die.” A YMCA scholarship saved their lives.
-
Young people on drugs and failing in school. The YMCA Y-CAP program helped turn their lives around and gave them a future.
-
Special needs children for whom child care is simply unavailable in the summer. In YMCA Sunshine Camp, these children had the same camping experience as “normal” children. Their parents could continue working as they learned social skills and self-confidence in mastering camp activities.
-
Older adults struggling with the pain of chronic diseases such as arthritis. YMCA classes gave them the mobility and pain relief that allows them to continue independent lives.
-
Children who would be going home to an empty apartment. YMCA afterschool programs gave them a safe place to stay along with extra help in academics to help them be successful.
