YMCA Chattanooga - Free Y Pass

Day Camp-Summer Fun!

Y Day Camp provides youth with supervised activities that teach core values, conflict resolution and leadership skills. Kids have fun while making new friends, building self-confidence, appreciating teamwork and growing in self-reliance. For kids, Y camp is a fun and happy place to enjoy the summer through creative play, creating art and making crafts, swimming, participate in field trips, appreciate nature and discover and value our many cultures.  Y Day Camp creates memories that last a life time.

The North River YMCA Summer Day Camp is called, “Camp Discovery”.  At Camp Discovery, kids who are rising 1st through 5th graders enjoy a wide variety of activities that includes physical activity for an active healthy life.  Here at the Y we will use a variety of ways to engage kids in exercising through fun and creative play.  At the Y, we use the national accredited program called CATCH and the YMCA’s Food n Fun to promote living a healthy and active life.

Camp Discovery uses technology and social time to connect with rising 6th through rising 8th graders.  The YMCA recognizes that youth are becoming independent and capable of making decisions around their choice of activities.  At Camp Discovery, the YMCA facilitates or guides youth by engaging them in developing their schedule each week through choices.  Parents do not need worry, the YMCA plans to keep the path clear for youth. Here is an example; Service Projects - Several service projects will be presented and ideas for others can come from the group.  Once a final approval of the top four projects is determined the group will select the project they agree is the most significant to them.

Camp Discovery has opportunities for rising 9th through 12th graders through our Counselor in Training (CIT) program.  The CIT program gives teens an opportunity to learn and gain experience working with youth.  Our hope is that one day these same teens will become counselors here at Camp Discovery or at Camp Ocoee.  All CITs must commit to two weeks of the program.  Once they have completed the two weeks they will have certifications in CPR and supervision.  CIT is not just all work.  We have fun opportunities and field trips planned for this group.
